Table-setting Art

(from Contemporary Table Settings, by Patricia Kroh, 1966, p. 17)

Table setting is not an art reserved for party time.  It is an art that every conscientious and intelligent homemaker realizes is of tremendous importance to the family well-being.  In today's busy world it becomes increasinlgly difficult to achive family togetherness...The responsibility for the atmosphere of this occasion rests very seriously on the shoulders of the homemaker.

An atmosphere of beauty may influence the mood, behaviour, and well-being of the family.  At mealtime the homemaker can set the stage for a happy get-together.  She can make the most of her important role by not only influencing the family eating habits but by creating an aura of beauty around the occasion.
